Attack On Fort Sumter
By Jacob Moran and Sean Vann
This battle sparked what was one of the bloodiest and worst wars in United States history, the Civil War. The attack on Fort Sumter was planned as soon as Abraham Lincoln became president. The Confederates wanted Fort Sumter because they thought that if they took it over it would drive the North out and then they could make South Carolina part of the Confeteracy of states. It would also give them control over the Charleston Harbor.

On April 11, 1861 the confederates asked for a surrender of fort sumter. But, Major Robert Anderson refused. Soon after he refused, the confederates attacked. The members of the Union quickly ran out of ammo and supplies. They were forced to surrender on April 14, 1861. Surprisingly, no one died in the attack accept a confederate whos cannon backfired. This was the beginning of the Civil War.

Overall, the attack on Fort Sumter was a significant cause of the Civil War.

After the attack it was the "final straw." Even though not many people

were harmed, it has a huge importance. Major Anderson was determined

to not give up the fort but, he was forced by the confederates to

surrender. Even though the south got the first attack the north was

victorious. S.V

The South thought if they could get the Fort they would would have control

over South Carolina and the Charelston Harbor which would give them a advantage

in the war. Once the North surendered it over this frustrated them enough to start the

war. Eventually it was a bad idea for the South to attack it because they lost the war at

end. J.M
